Slappy New Year! Rare spanking art from Janus magazine

You may be suffering from post-festive blues (especially after I finished the year with a rather sombre end to my last post), but fear not... thanks to the archive at the Spanking Art Wiki there's plenty more previously unseen art from classic spanking magazines to brighten up your long cold January!

Things certainly heat up in 'Domestic Discipline' (Janus 141), where a young secretary encourages her landlord to spank her with his belt rather than evict her... 

And persuades him to use the same treatment on his nagging wife!

Hardcastle seemed to vary his style occasionally during his long run as resident artist on Janus, so that it sometimes isn't apparent that a work is by him at first glance.

Throughout Janus's run there were stories featuring an exasperated shopkeeper who I suspect rather represented the views of the magazine's typical male reader...

After admiring a girl's bottom in her tight cycling shorts at the start of 'Rachel: the Bottom End of the Market' (Janus 85), the world-weary older gentleman is delighted to be given an opportunity to thrash it. While in 'Sharon: the Lesser of Two Evils' (Janus 93) the same shopkeeper employs two assistants, sisters with surprisingly differently shaped posteriors...

He's recruiting again in 'Tracey: sitting on a fortune' (Janus 108), and finds both business and pleasure improve immeasurably when he employs a pretty young assistant, and she asks him to cane her and her friends!

Going by the stories in Janus, there was no shortage of uppity young women seeking out stern older lovers to bring them into line. In 'One Never Knows Does One' (Janus 62) a very naughty young lady has a crush on an older man and propositions him for sex...

Being a responsible, upstanding pillar of society, he refuses... but when she suggests he cane her at his house instead he can't resist!

In 'The Leather Virgin' (Janus 63) a boss finds his young secretary (and mistress) utterly unflappable... until he puts her across his lap for her first ever spanking!

Nothing raises the ire of an older gentleman like damage to his beloved motor car, and in 'The Best Policy' (Janus 112) a disrespectful young woman takes a spanking in exchange for the spanker accepting liability in a car insurance claim...

Though, presumably to the distaste of the majority of the Janus readership, the facts presented suggest that the male driver was in fact the one at fault!

'A Painful Shock' (Janus 113) is a story with a deliciously cruel twist, where two students are tricked into accepting corporal punishment instead of the proposed alternative of heavy fines and public disgrace. Poor Kim has never been punished before and gets quite an introduction to spanking and the strap...

And since American Laurette and her sisters were regularly spanked by her exasperated mother, she gets it even harder with the slipper, hairbrush and whip!

Some things never change of course 'The Levitican Scrolls' in Janus 117 is a account of domestic discipline methods in 345BC.

Though it isn't just the older patriarchs who get to have all the fun. A dance instructor in 'And Draw the Chalky Ring' (Janus 117) uses the methods of their old teacher to motivate her friend.

A young woman returns to her old piano teacher in 'Five Finger Exercises' (Janus 129), promising to do better this time...

But she can't quite do better enough, and her tutor gradually introduces spanking and then the strap... while it's eventually revealed that she is receiving the same from her own tutor.

When an insolent young private goes 'AWOL' (Janus 133) during the early days of the Second World War, her commanding officer tracks her to her family home and watches the girl get a sound thrashing from her mother before she is taken back to camp!

In 'The Old Newtonians' (Janus 142) two ex-private schoolgirls fall foul of the rules of their Old School network and must be birched in front of the other members... which they find unexpectedly stimulating!

And in 'Hoist by Her Own Petard' (Janus 122) a deputy bank manager with a taste for spanking catches her subordinate attempting in an amateurish attempt at fraud. She takes the opportunity to punish her herself rather than involve the authorities...

Though when the Bank Manager himself walks in, he gives his deputy a taste of her own medicine!

While I enjoy the 'historical' tales that were common in the classic spanking mags, I'm not particularly fond of futuristic spanking stories. However, 'Living in the Past' from Janus 54 has a few things to recommend it...

Frank Klark was particularly partial to administering the Stingray. The sight of even fairly high-ranking personnel – including a disproportionate numbers of females – with the tell-tale skorch streaks across their uniform-swathed buttocks was not uncommon. She surveys him quizzically, trying to work out what he might have in mind. Had he, after all, found a way to operate the Stingray on bare flesh? Or, perhaps they were to perform sex with each other?

There were quite a few such sci-fi stories scattered through Janus's run and I much preferred the artwork when it wasn't too focused on its futuristic setting...

Fortunately Februs seemed to contain fewer sci-fi themed stories than Janus, though the depiction of VR in 'Behind to the Future' (Februs 10) is certainly something for current-day developers to aim for!
